KARACHI—Sindh Food Minister Makhdoom Mehboob uz Zaman chaired a meeting with the Flour Mills Association to review wheat stocks, flour prices and supply across the province, reiterating that affordable flour for every household remains the Sindh Government’s top priority.
The minister directed flour mill owners to maintain the lowest possible flour prices and ensure uninterrupted supplies. He said the government has intensified operations against hoarding and profiteering, adding that the Food Department currently holds 446,947 metric tonnes of wheat, sufficient to stabilize the market. He also assured that additional wheat would be procured from PASSCO if required.
The Flour Mills Association appreciated the government’s cooperation but urged an increase in the wheat storage limit for mills from one month to two months’ grinding capacity. Commissioner Karachi said flour is available in the city at the government-notified price of around Rs125 per kilogram, while wheat is selling at approximately Rs11,600.
The minister concluded by reaffirming the Sindh Government’s zero-tolerance policy against hoarding and artificial shortages to ensure a continuous supply of affordable flour across Sindh.
