SIALKOT: DPO Captain (R) Dost Muhammad has taken significant steps to bridge the longstanding gap between the public and the police, restoring confidence among citizens and bringing visible improvements in policing across Sialkot.

For years, sections of the public appeared dissatisfied with the Punjab Police, with many citizens reportedly becoming fearful at the mere mention of the police. A common perception prevailed that “the police will never reform,” while within the department, the argument was often heard that “we are not allowed to reform.”
Against this backdrop, DPO Dost Muhammad has emerged as an officer committed to changing this perception. Having joined the Police Service of Pakistan with a passion for public service, his career reflects a consistent focus on serving citizens and combating crime wherever he has been posted.
He is widely regarded as an officer who advocates police reforms, crime eradication, transparency and improved institutional performance.
After his tenure with the CCD, his arrival in Sialkot was followed by significant changes in the police department. The DPO has maintained that the fundamental responsibility of the police is to protect the lives and property of citizens and perform their duties honestly and professionally.
Indiscriminate action is being taken against drug dealers, shooters, proclaimed offenders and other elements involved in criminal activities. These measures have earned considerable support from the public, a level of public confidence that few police officers have been able to achieve.
Clear instructions have also been issued to police officers to resolve public complaints on a priority basis and treat complainants with courtesy, dignity and respect.
DPO Dost Muhammad has emphasized that by eliminating the distance between the police and the public, an environment is being created in which citizens can approach the police without fear and seek solutions to their problems.
Under his leadership, a noticeable improvement in police performance and public trust is being witnessed in Sialkot. The DPO is also receiving support from the media for his efforts.
Sialkot has witnessed improvements in maintaining peace, combating drugs and dealing with shooters and dangerous criminals, while efforts are also being made to reduce street crime and crimes against children.
The respect and appreciation that DPO Dost Muhammad has received from citizens is being viewed as an example for other police officers.
The real secret behind his success, according to observers, is that he first put his own house in order, then worked to win the confidence of the public. This process of building trust between the police and citizens continues.
