ISLAMABAD-Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), pledging continued moral, diplomatic and political support for their right to self-determination.
In his message on Jammu and Kashmir Black Day, observed on October 27, the Prime Minister recalled that 79 years ago, Indian forces landed in Srinagar, marking a tragic chapter in the history of Jammu and Kashmir. He said the Kashmiri people continued to be denied their right to self-determination, as recognised in relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to the sacrifices of Kashmiri men, women and children, acknowledging their courage and determination in seeking freedom, dignity and justice. He also expressed concern over the continued detention of Kashmiri political leaders, activists and human rights defenders, stressing the importance of due process and fundamental freedoms.
Referring to India’s unilateral measures of August 5, 2019, he said the steps had affected the political, legal and demographic character of the territory and called for the dispute to be addressed in accordance with international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Shehbaz Sharif maintained that lasting peace and stability in South Asia depended on a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with international commitments and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
He said Pakistan would continue to raise the issue at national and international forums and expressed hope that the people of Jammu and Kashmir would achieve a future marked by peace, dignity, security and the fulfilment of their right to self-determination.
