ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering moral, diplomatic and political support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), calling for a just and peaceful resolution of the dispute in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
In his message on Jammu and Kashmir Black Day, observed on October 27, the President recalled that Indian forces landed in Srinagar on October 27, 1947, marking the beginning of a prolonged and tragic chapter in the region’s history.
He said generations of Kashmiris had endured suffering, repression and restrictions on fundamental rights while continuing their struggle for justice, dignity and self-determination.
President Zardari expressed concern over human rights violations and restrictions on fundamental freedoms, particularly following India’s unilateral measures of August 5, 2019, which Pakistan says altered the constitutional and legal status of Jammu and Kashmir.
He urged the international community, particularly the United Nations and international human rights organisations, to address the human rights situation in IIOJK and support efforts towards a peaceful and lasting resolution of the dispute.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s solidarity, the President said the country would continue to extend moral, diplomatic and political support to the Kashmiri people and raise their cause at international forums.
He paid tribute to the sacrifices of the Kashmiri people and expressed hope that they would realise their right to self-determination and a future of peace, dignity and security.
