ISLAMABAD — President Asif Ali Zardari has paid tribute to teachers across Pakistan and around the world for their contributions to education, human development and nation-building on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day.
The President said teachers play a central role in imparting knowledge, nurturing curiosity, building character and preparing young people to become responsible and productive members of society.
He noted that this year’s observance marks the 60th anniversary of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, highlighting the importance of protecting and strengthening the teaching profession.
President Zardari stressed the need to invest in teacher education, professional development and supportive learning environments in Pakistan. He said technology, including artificial intelligence, could support education but could not replace teachers’ empathy, mentorship and ethical guidance.
He particularly appreciated teachers serving in remote and underserved areas and called for providing them with adequate training, resources and working conditions.
The President urged governments, educational institutions, parents, communities, civil society and the private sector to work together to strengthen and respect the teaching profession, describing support for teachers as an investment in Pakistan’s future.
