RAWALPINDI — PTI Kissan Wing Central Information Secretary Khalid Nawaz Sadhraich has warned that the spread of livestock diseases following floods could cause a decline in milk and meat production and threaten the livelihoods of millions of rural families.
He urged the federal and provincial governments to immediately declare a livestock health and vaccination emergency, establish Mobile Veterinary Emergency Units in flood-affected districts, and ensure the availability of vaccines and fodder to small farmers.
Khalid Nawaz Sadhraich also called for district-wise surveys of livestock deaths, disease prevalence, vaccination coverage, fodder availability and veterinary facilities across the country.
He warned that diseases including Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD), PPR, Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) and hemorrhagic septicemia could spread rapidly through affected areas if immediate preventive measures are not taken.
He further demanded strategic fodder banks, livestock movement controls and the establishment of a National Livestock Disaster and Disease Response Fund to support emergency vaccination, veterinary services, animal shelters, diagnostics and affected farmers.
He cautioned that failure to address the issue could adversely affect farmers’ incomes, milk and meat supplies, rural employment and national food security.
