ISLAMABAD—Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Punjab North finalized preparations for its nationwide protest and road blockade scheduled for August 7 against the petroleum levy, inflation, excessive taxation, and the government’s economic policies.
A review meeting chaired by Dr. Tariq Saleem and attended by Nazir Ahmed Janjua decided that protests would be held across the country with participation from lawyers, teachers, students, traders, workers, and other segments of society. Organizers said only ambulances would be allowed to pass during the demonstrations.
JI leaders claimed the government’s economic policies had placed an unbearable burden on the public through rising fuel, electricity, and gas prices, and urged citizens to join the peaceful nationwide protest called by Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman on August 7.
