Report: ANI Correspondent:

ISLAMABAD — National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior Chairman Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz chaired a meeting to review Balochistan security, the ICT Local Government Amendment Bill 2026, cybercrime, illegal SIMs and Islamabad’s law-and-order situation.
The committee discussed the proposed in-camera briefing on Balochistan security and efforts to arrange a briefing by the provincial government.
The ICT Local Government Amendment Bill 2026 was approved by eight members, while four PPP members opposed it and submitted a dissenting note.
Officials briefed the committee on online fraud, WhatsApp hacking and illegal SIMs. PTA officials said 1.8 million illegal SIMs had been blocked in two years, while Rs4.2 billion in fines were imposed over illegal SIMs in six months.
The committee also discussed the dispute over village and mouza records between Rawalpindi and Islamabad and directed senior Rawalpindi officials to provide a clear timeline for resolving the issue.
On Islamabad’s law and order, officials said crime had declined by 28 per cent recently, while Safe City operations had led to the arrest of 132 gangs. The chairman expressed concern over drug trafficking and directed authorities to take effective action against drug dealers.
