Karachi: The construction of BYD-Mega Motor Company’s purpose-built New Energy Vehicle (NEV) assembly plant in Gharo has entered its final stages, with equipment installation and commissioning currently underway. The facility is scheduled to become operational in the second half of 2026.
Built in less than 18 months, the project represents one of the fastest automotive manufacturing developments of its scale in Pakistan. The plant is being developed to support the local assembly of BYD’s NEV range and marks a significant step in the company’s efforts to establish a manufacturing presence in the Pakistani market.
The company said that, as with any world-class manufacturing facility, the plant must undergo comprehensive equipment validation, production trials and quality testing before volume production begins. These processes are intended to ensure that the facility and its operations meet BYD’s global manufacturing and quality standards.
Once commissioning and validation are successfully completed, the plant is expected to move towards regular production, further strengthening Pakistan’s emerging electric and new-energy vehicle manufacturing ecosystem.
