MUZAFFARABAD– Dr Muhammad Najeeb Naqi has been elected the 25th President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir after securing 32 votes in the presidential election held at the AJK Legislative Assembly.
Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Chaudhry Latif Akbar secured 13 votes, while one member remained absent. Dr Najeeb Naqi received 31 votes from PML-N members and one additional vote from another assembly member.
Dr Najeeb Naqi belongs to the Sudhanoti-Palendri constituency of Poonch Division. He served as AJK Health Minister from 2006 to 2011 and also held the health portfolio during the PML-N government from 2016 to 2021.
