ISLAMABAD — Former Senate Chairman and senior political leader Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari has called for a broad-based national debate and consensus among all provinces and political parties before the creation of new administrative units.
Speaking at an interactive session at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Bukhari said major governance decisions should be based on consultation and consensus among all stakeholders. He also endorsed ICCI’s concerns regarding Islamabad’s governance and called for accountability within the Capital Development Authority (CDA) where negligence had contributed to administrative problems.
On the NFC distribution, Bukhari said the issue of Islamabad’s share also needed to be addressed and an appropriate mechanism developed.
ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood stressed that the business community, MNAs, public representatives and other stakeholders must be meaningfully involved in policymaking. He said policy decisions taken without stakeholder input could not deliver sustainable solutions.
He also called for CDA planning, infrastructure and civic facilities to be aligned with Islamabad’s present and future needs, while urging practical and transparent measures for fire safety in commercial buildings.
Former Minister Chaudhry Imtiaz Safdar Warrich, former State Minister Tasneem Qureshi, former MPA Sania Kamran and ICCI senior member Babar Bhatti also shared their views on governance, institutional coordination and ease of doing business.
