LAHORE — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in her message on World Cleanup Day, said cleanliness holds the status of half of faith for every Muslim, while a clean Punjab is the foundation of a healthy and prosperous future.
She said the “Suthra Punjab” project is laying the foundation for a new and healthier Punjab and is the largest project of its kind in the world. For the first time, a systematic cleanliness programme has been launched not only in cities but also in 25,000 villages.
Maryam Nawaz said cleanliness conditions on Punjab’s roads, streets and neighbourhoods are also being monitored through Safe City cameras. She said ensuring cleanliness in streets and neighbourhoods is the government’s responsibility, while maintaining cleanliness is the duty of citizens.
The Chief Minister said sustainable and environment-friendly measures are being implemented under the Suthra Punjab programme. A clean environment helps prevent diseases and guarantees a better quality of life, while making Punjab clean and green and ensuring the health of its people remains a top priority.
She said keeping the planet clean is essential for protecting the environment and ensuring its survival. Maintaining a clean environment around us is also a collective social responsibility.
Maryam Nawaz said arrangements are being made for waste recycling, waste management and cleanliness at public places. “A clean Pakistan is a healthy and developed Pakistan,” she said.
The Chief Minister appealed to citizens to adopt proper methods for disposing of waste, avoid the use of plastic and play their full role in keeping their homes, streets and neighbourhoods clean.
