NETHERLANDS — Pakistan secured a long-awaited victory at the FIH Hockey World Cup, defeating Japan 4-3 in a thrilling classification match to record their first World Cup win in 16 years.

The victory comes after Pakistan had already been eliminated from contention for the World Cup title. However, the national side displayed fighting spirit and determination to finish the tournament on a positive note.

The result has also brought renewed attention to the leadership of Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, Federal Secretary at the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination, who was appointed President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation on an ad-hoc basis.

Wani’s appointment had raised expectations for administrative and structural reforms within Pakistan hockey, with particular focus on strengthening the national team and developing the sport at the grassroots level.

Pakistan’s 4-3 victory over Japan is being viewed as an encouraging sign for a team that has struggled to produce consistent results on the international stage.

The win ends a 16-year wait for Pakistan at the Hockey World Cup and provides a much-needed confidence boost to the players and management.

Although the team is out of the title race, the victory in the classification stage gives Pakistan an opportunity to end its World Cup campaign on a positive note.

For Pakistan’s hockey fans, the result offers hope that the country’s national sport can once again regain its place among the world’s leading hockey nations.

The focus will now be on whether this victory can become the beginning of a sustained revival rather than remaining an isolated success.
