ISLAMABAD– Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Danyal Chaudhry on Tuesday said Pakistan is committed to further strengthening bilateral relations with the United States through parliamentary diplomacy, people-to-people contacts and expanded cooperation in diverse sectors.
Speaking after a meeting between the Pakistan-US Parliamentary Friendship Group and a visiting US Congressional delegation at Parliament House, he said strong parliamentary engagement would promote cooperation in trade, investment, education, academic exchanges and institutional partnerships.
Barrister Danyal said the Pakistani people appreciated the diplomatic role played by US President Donald Trump in helping de-escalate tensions during the recent Pakistan-India standoff, describing it as a positive development in bilateral relations.
He stressed the need to revive the Pakistan Caucus in the US Congress to further strengthen legislative ties and noted that the US delegation’s visit and meetings with Pakistan’s leadership reflected both countries’ commitment to enhancing cooperation.
Rejecting a recent Pew Research Center survey as inconsistent with ground realities, Barrister Danyal said Pakistan’s close friendship with China did not translate into negative perceptions of the United States. He added that Pakistan-US relations continue to progress on the basis of mutual respect, shared interests and sustained diplomatic engagement.
Other parliamentarians attending the meeting also rejected the survey findings, describing them as unrepresentative of public opinion.
