ISLAMABAD—The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Farmers Wing has announced the preparation of a comprehensive Agricultural White Paper to present a research-based assessment of Pakistan’s agricultural sector and identify the factors behind its decline over the past seven decades.
Central Information Secretary Khalid Nawaz Sadhraich said on Friday that, on the directions of Central Organizer Sheikh Waqas Akram, the Policy Research and Publications Division had initiated the collection of data, statistics, and research material from farmers’ organizations and other stakeholders nationwide.
He said the White Paper would review Pakistan’s agricultural journey from 1947 to the present, with special focus on the wheat sector, examining agricultural policies, production trends, institutional performance, and the socioeconomic conditions of farmers.
Sadhraich said the report would be based on official records, reports of national agricultural institutions, and studies by internationally recognized organizations to ensure accuracy and credibility.
He added that Sheikh Waqas Akram had directed that the document be prepared with complete impartiality, academic integrity, and professional objectivity, ensuring all findings remain evidence-based.
The White Paper will include detailed statistics on wheat production, cultivated area, yield trends, and other key agricultural indicators, supported by tables, charts, and graphs.
Sadhraich expressed hope that the findings and recommendations of the White Paper would help policymakers formulate effective agricultural policies, revive the farming sector, strengthen food security, and restore farmers’ confidence.
