MURREE —Under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Murree, Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi, the implementation of the Murree Development Plan has officially begun. The project aims to modernize the historic hill station while preserving and enhancing its commercial and tourism significance. As part of the first phase, a large scale operation is underway on the Hillside section of Mall Road. Heavy machinery is being used to demolish structures acquired under the land acquisition plan. According to sources, around 10 hotels and more than 40 shops have already been demolished. During the operation, Mall Road has been temporarily closed to tourists. The demolition has left a significant portion of Mall Road covered in rubble, giving the area the appearance of an old ruin. However, the district administration says the operation is part of a long-term strategy to improve traffic management, widen pedestrian walkways, upgrade public facilities, and develop modern infrastructure. The project has generated mixed reactions among local residents and the business community. While many view it as a necessary step toward Murree’s future development, affected traders have expressed concerns over the impact on their businesses. The district administration maintains that once completed, the revamped Mall Road will be more organized, aesthetically appealing, and better equipped to attract both domestic and international tourists.
