Report: Parliamentary Reporter ANI :

ISLAMABAD -Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman has called on the government to brief Parliament on its strategy to ensure an uninterrupted supply of petroleum products and gas amid evolving global developments.

Speaking in the Senate on Friday, she stressed the need for timely planning regarding petroleum reserves, future energy demand and measures to address potential shortages.

She requested the Senate Chairman to arrange a briefing on Monday or Tuesday, involving relevant government officials, to inform lawmakers about fuel availability, existing reserves and possible rationing mechanisms if required.

Senator Sherry Rehman also highlighted the importance of planning for gas and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supplies, noting that potential shortages could affect Islamabad, northern areas and other parts of the country. She urged the ministers for petroleum and energy to brief Parliament on measures to meet future energy needs and respond to possible international developments.

Addressing the carbon tax, she emphasized the need for transparency regarding the use of revenue generated through the tax and its distribution among provinces. She highlighted environmental challenges faced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Punjab, including forest conservation and flood-related damage.

She called for a detailed parliamentary briefing on the financial mechanisms governing carbon tax revenue to ensure that provincial environmental needs are adequately addressed.

The senator stressed that timely consultation and comprehensive planning were essential to safeguarding energy supplies and strengthening environmental protection across the country.
