KARACHI — Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi met ambassadors, consuls general and diplomatic representatives of ASEAN member countries at Governor House to discuss bilateral relations, regional cooperation, environmental protection and stronger economic ties.
Diplomats from the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar and other ASEAN countries attended the meeting. Later, the Governor and diplomatic guests participated in a tree-planting campaign at the Quaid-e-Azam Urban Forest in Governor House.
Speaking to the media, Hashmi stressed that friendship, unity and collective efforts among Asian countries were essential to addressing shared challenges, particularly climate change, floods and natural disasters. He called for stronger regional cooperation and exchange of experiences.
The Governor said Pakistan’s foreign policy was enhancing the country’s diplomatic significance and international recognition. He also acknowledged the roles of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar in promoting regional peace and stability.
On water issues, Hashmi described access to water as a fundamental human right and termed India's threat to suspend Pakistan's water supply an act of water aggression, saying the use of water as political pressure could undermine regional peace.
He said the tree-planting activity reflected a shared commitment to environmental protection and climate change mitigation, expressing hope for further expansion of Pakistan’s relations and cooperation with ASEAN countries.
