Shifa International Hospitals Ltd. has earned a remarkable place in global healthcare by securing dual JCI certification for two major clinical programs at the same time. The hospital has become the first in the world to receive Joint Commission International Clinical Care Program Certification for both Acute Ischemic Stroke and Acute Coronary Syndrome.
The achievement places Shifa in a category of its own. While only five hospitals around the world hold either of these certifications separately, Shifa has now accomplished both simultaneously, reflecting a level of clinical coordination and standard-setting that stands out internationally.
According to the hospital, JCI surveyors conducted a detailed review of the full patient care pathway during the evaluation process. Their assessment covered emergency response, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and long-term management, ensuring that both programs met the highest global benchmarks.
The dual JCI certification also highlights the effort behind the scenes. Doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, quality teams, and support staff worked together to meet the rigorous requirements of JCI, reinforcing the importance of teamwork in delivering reliable and evidence-based care.
Shifa’s leadership said the recognition reflects a continued focus on clinical decisions guided by the best available evidence. The hospital believes this approach helps improve outcomes for patients who require timely intervention in stroke and heart emergencies.
Dr. Zeeshan Bin Ishtiaque, Chief Executive of Shifa International Hospitals Limited, called the moment historic and credited the success to the dedication of the entire team. He also expressed gratitude for the journey that led to this recognition, describing it as a source of pride for the institution and for Pakistan.
The two certifications are also firsts for the country. Shifa is now the first hospital in Pakistan to earn JCI Clinical Care Program Certification for Acute Ischemic Stroke as well as Acute Coronary Syndrome, strengthening its position as a leading center for advanced care in both specialties.
This development follows Shifa’s recent JCI accreditation as an Academic Medical Center, achieved just last week. With back-to-back international recognition, the hospital says it remains committed to ongoing improvement and to raising the standard of care for patients across Pakistan.
