ISLAMABAD– The Islamabad Model Jail project, pending for 17 years, has been completed. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that following its inauguration by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the coming days, the phased transfer of prisoners from Adiala Jail to the new facility will begin.
Speaking to the media, Naqvi said all prisoners whose cases fall under Islamabad courts would be shifted to Islamabad Model Jail. He added that 1,500 prisoners would be transferred in the first phase.
The new facility is intended to accommodate prisoners linked to Islamabad’s judicial system, with the relocation process to be carried out in phases after the inauguration.
