MITHI — Faisal Ahmed Uqaili, Secretary, Environment, Climate Change & Coastal Development Department, Government of Sindh, along with a delegation from the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), Japan, and Pakistani technical experts, visited various areas of Tharparkar to assess climate-related vulnerabilities and explore opportunities for developing climate-resilient interventions with potential access to international and bilateral climate finance.
The field mission focused on understanding the climate, environmental, socio-economic and livelihood-related challenges faced by local communities and identifying potential interventions that could be developed into bankable and investment-ready climate projects.
During the visit, the delegation engaged with local stakeholders and examined potential areas of intervention, including water security and resource management, climate-resilient livelihoods, sustainable agriculture, ecosystem and land restoration, renewable energy, indigenous knowledge, nature-based solutions and community-based climate resilience.
The mission forms part of the Government of Sindh’s broader efforts to strengthen climate action and climate finance readiness, translate identified climate priorities into technically sound and potentially financeable project concepts, and enhance cooperation with national and international climate, development and technical partners.
The Government of Sindh remains committed to promoting locally appropriate, inclusive and sustainable climate-resilience solutions, particularly for vulnerable communities, while pursuing opportunities to mobilize climate and development finance through national and international partnerships.
