GUJRANWALA: On the instructions of City Police Officer (CPO) Dr. Sardar Ghiyas Gul Khan, district police conducted major operations in different areas of Gujranwala, resulting in one accused being killed and three dangerous suspects being arrested in an injured condition following police encounters.
Cantt Police Station: Main Accused in Rape Case Killed
The main accused, Abdul Rehman, who was on physical remand in a case involving the rape of a nine-year-old girl, was being taken by a police team for recovery when two unidentified armed accomplices opened fire in an attempt to free him.
During the ensuing exchange of fire, Abdul Rehman was hit by indiscriminate firing from his own accomplices and was killed, while the two armed men managed to escape from the scene.
Police said the deceased accused had previously been involved in several cases, including alleged sexual assault of minors and robbery.
Three Suspects Arrested in Police Encounters
At Wazirabad Police Station, a wanted suspect, Asad Naveed, allegedly attempted to escape during a police raid, leading to an exchange of fire. He was arrested in an injured condition. Police recovered Rs29,000 in cash, an illegal weapon and a stolen motorcycle from his possession.
At Model Town Police Station, motorcycle thief Ali Raza allegedly attempted to flee during a police search operation but was arrested in an injured condition after an exchange of fire. A stolen motorcycle was recovered from him.
Meanwhile, accused Abrar, who was on physical remand in a case registered at Satellite Town Police Station for allegedly showing indecent videos to a young girl, attempted to escape from police custody during a recovery operation. He was arrested in an injured condition.
Search for Absconding Suspects
Special teams have been constituted under the supervision of the SDPO Cantt for the immediate arrest of the absconding suspects, while strict security and search measures have been intensified across the city.
CPO Dr. Sardar Ghiyas Gul Khan said that eliminating criminal elements and drug peddlers is essential for establishing a peaceful and secure society. He said those who threaten the lives and property of citizens would be dealt with firmly.
