ISLAMABAD/ Uk — Sumblina Hassan, former secretary to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and In-Charge, Office 10 UK, RCC Bilawal House, has called on the government to take immediate and strict action over the tragic incident at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).
In a statement, she said effective measures must be taken to ensure that such a tragedy does not occur again. She also stressed the need to improve and strengthen medical facilities across the country.
She said Islamabad has only two government hospitals, which are inadequate for the city’s population, while essential facilities are also lacking. According to her, there is no proper system in place and patients face serious difficulties in accessing healthcare.
Sumblina Hassan said patients often struggle to obtain beds without recommendations and that the situation has deteriorated to the extent that people are hesitant to seek treatment at hospitals.
Expressing her heartfelt sympathy with the families of the newborn babies who lost their lives in the PIMS tragedy, she demanded an immediate judicial inquiry into the incident. She also called for those responsible to be identified and held accountable, while urging the government to provide adequate compensation to the affected families.
She further called for emergency measures to strengthen safety and administrative arrangements at hospitals to prevent such tragedies in the future.
