ISLAMABAD— The Senate Sub-Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control rejected a TV report linking Senators Faisal Saleem Rehman and Dilawar Khan with the seizure of 11 cigarette-laden trucks on the motorway.
The meeting, chaired by Senator Saifullah Abro, took serious notice of the alleged negative media campaign and directed the FBR to identify officials responsible, while the FIA was asked to conduct an impartial investigation.
The committee also questioned Customs’ jurisdiction over the motorway seizure, contradictory valuation figures and the legal basis of the FIR registered against the truck drivers. The Inspector General of Motorway Police clarified that the MOU between Motorway Police and Customs is limited to providing operational assistance in stopping suspicious vehicles.
The committee further expressed concern over the issuance of Consumption Certificates and incomplete details regarding Rs1.12 trillion in imports in tax-exempt areas, directing the relevant authorities to submit comprehensive reports.
