Mandi Bahauddin
District Jail Mandi Bahauddin has been transformed into a reformatory institution where comprehensive efforts are being made to rehabilitate inmates and prepare them to become responsible and productive members of society, Senior Superintendent Haq Nawaz said.
He stated that the government is taking all possible measures for the welfare of prisoners by providing religious and moral education alongside vocational and technical training. These initiatives are designed to equip inmates with practical skills so they can earn a respectable livelihood after their release and successfully reintegrate into society.
Haq Nawaz said that, following the special directives of IG Prisons Punjab, Mian Muhammad Salik Jalal, prisoners are being served high-quality meals prepared strictly in accordance with the Jail Manual and hygiene standards. As part of the improved diet, chicken curry is served seven days a week.
He emphasized that a positive environment and proper rehabilitation are essential for reforming offenders. “No one is born a criminal,” he said, adding that social injustice and adverse circumstances often lead individuals toward crime, while proper guidance and opportunities can help them become law-abiding citizens.
The Senior Superintendent further stated that inmates are provided with all available facilities, with particular attention to healthcare, sanitation, and cleanliness. Medical treatment, medicines, and improved hospital services are being ensured within the available resources, while nutritious food is prepared and served under strict hygiene standards.
He added that security arrangements at the jail have been significantly strengthened. The entry of private vehicles has been banned, and designated days have been reserved for family visits. Meetings between prisoners and their relatives are held only in designated sheds after visitors undergo thorough security screening.
According to Haq Nawaz, inmates are provided with clean, filtered drinking water, and the quality of food has been further improved. CCTV cameras and searchlights have been installed throughout the prison premises, while security personnel remain on high alert around the clock to ensure the safety and security of the facility.
He also said that a strict system of checks and balances has been implemented for jail staff. Any official found violating rules or neglecting official responsibilities will face strict departmental action.
