The privilege committee of the National Assembly held its 16th meeting at Parliament House, Islamabad, and moved ahead on a set of proposed amendments to the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007. The committee discussed amendments submitted by Syed Rafiullah, MNA, covering Rules 2, 43 sub-rule (4) and 247, along with a proposal to insert a new rule after Rule 39B.

After detailed deliberations, the committee decided to form a sub-committee under the convenership of Mr. Azhar Qayyum Nahra, MNA, to examine the proposed changes in depth. The sub-committee has been asked to present its report to the privilege committee within thirty days for final consideration.

The meeting, chaired by Mr. Muhammad Afzal, MNA, also took up a question of privilege filed by Ms. Shagufta Jumani, MNA, against the CEO and COO of Pakistan International Airlines. The complaint concerned the non-issuance of boarding passes to her family members for a confirmed PIA flight from Jeddah to Karachi. Following discussion, the committee directed that a letter be sent to the incumbent CEO of PIA, seeking a full inquiry and appropriate action against those found responsible.

The privilege committee further deferred the questions of privilege moved by Dr. Darshan and Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan, MNAs. It also postponed consideration of the amendments moved by Dr. Nafisa Shah, MNA, and said the matter would be taken up again in the next meeting.

The session was attended by MNAs Nasir Iqbal Bosal, Waseem Qadir, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasar, Pir Syed Fazal Ali Shah Jillani, Zulfiqar Bachani, Mir Ghulam Ali Talpur, Ms. Shagufta Jumani, Ms. Naeema Kishwer Khan and Ch. Naseer Ahmed Abbas, who joined online. Syed Rafiullah and Dr. Nafisa Shah also participated as movers. Senior officers from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice, Establishment Division, Capital Development Authority and Pakistan International Airlines attended the meeting as well.
