ISLAMABAD : Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has emphasised that mental health is fundamental to human well-being, social harmony and the development of a healthy and stable society.
In his message on World Mental Health Day, observed annually on October 10, the speaker stressed the need to raise public awareness, eliminate social stigma associated with psychological conditions and ensure timely diagnosis and effective treatment.
He said mental health challenges could affect people of all ages and backgrounds and should be recognised as serious health concerns rather than signs of weakness.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq emphasised that individuals experiencing psychological distress should be treated with compassion, respect and understanding instead of discrimination or social exclusion. He called for creating a supportive environment where people could openly discuss their concerns and seek medical and psychological assistance without fear.
Highlighting the importance of children's and young people's mental health, he said their intellectual, emotional and social development was directly linked to the well-being of society. He urged families, educational institutions and communities to promote positive attitudes and support those facing psychological challenges.
The speaker stressed that addressing mental health challenges required coordinated efforts by the government, Parliament, relevant institutions, healthcare professionals and civil society. He called for greater public awareness, improved access to quality mental health services and effective support systems for those in need.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq reaffirmed that Parliament would continue to play its constitutional and parliamentary role in promoting public welfare, social inclusion and the protection of citizens' fundamental rights.
