On World Mental Health Day, we must recognise that mental health is as important as physical health. Everyone deserves compassion, dignity and access to appropriate mental healthcare without stigma or discrimination.
The government could consider introducing a dedicated mental health support initiative through the existing health department network, potentially under the Benazir Support Fund, to assist vulnerable individuals who cannot afford treatment. Charitable organisations and philanthropic institutions should also be encouraged to contribute.
Rising living costs, unemployment, family breakdown and unresolved psychological trauma can leave people feeling hopeless and isolated. Some turn to drugs for temporary relief, but lasting solutions require professional care, counselling, rehabilitation and support that addresses the root causes of their distress.
We must move beyond awareness towards practical action, ensuring that mental healthcare is accessible to all, vulnerable individuals receive timely support, and no one feels alone in their struggle. Every life matters, every voice deserves to be heard, and hope must be available to everyone.
