THARPARKAR –Sukaar Foundation Sindh and Gro Green Network have urged the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to introduce a special concessional financing scheme for electric vehicles and reduce reliance on imported fuel by promoting clean, locally produced energy.
The demand was made at a public forum titled “Freedom from Imported Fuel: Energy Security and Clean Mobility”, organised by Sukaar Foundation Sindh in collaboration with the Indus Consortium in Mithi.
Speakers highlighted the challenges posed by dependence on imported gas and fuel, including rising energy costs and supply shortages. They called for easier financing for electric vehicles and support for converting existing motorcycles and rickshaws to electric systems.
Participants also urged the expansion of renewable-energy-powered charging infrastructure, greater investment in solar and wind power, battery storage and modernisation of the electricity grid.
The forum further called for reducing reliance on imported RLNG and addressing circular debt in the power sector, saying greater use of domestic renewable energy could help lower energy costs and improve electricity access for households and businesses.
