LAHORE: The fifth round of talks between the government and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on the abolition of the petroleum levy concluded at Mansoora, with the government seeking postponement of the planned Long March due to security concerns.
The government delegation, led by Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, cited IMF pressure and the expected visit of an IMF delegation to Pakistan, while assuring that significant relief would be provided to the public soon.
JI Deputy Chief Liaquat Baloch said the Long March would continue to be inevitable until the petroleum levy was abolished, urging the government to take concrete steps to address public demands.
According to the announced schedule, JI’s “Super Long March,” led by Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, will commence from Karachi on September 20.
