Islamabad/Rawalpindi– The electric bus service operating between PIMS and Media Town, introduced to provide modern, comfortable and dignified public transport to citizens, has reportedly become a source of inconvenience due to long intervals between buses and a growing passenger load.
Following the discontinuation of the 136-number bus service on the route, commuters have increasingly turned to electric buses, resulting in significant overcrowding. Citizens said that buses on the route currently arrive at intervals of around 30 minutes, causing large numbers of passengers to gather at bus stops while waiting for the next service.
When a bus arrives, the heavy rush makes boarding difficult, particularly for women, elderly citizens and children. In some cases, passengers are unable to board because of limited capacity and are forced to wait for the next bus, resulting in delays and additional inconvenience.
Commuters have urged the relevant authorities, particularly the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), to increase the frequency of electric buses on the PIMS-Media Town route and reduce the current 30-minute interval to around 10 minutes.
They said increasing the number and frequency of buses would help reduce overcrowding, minimize waiting times and provide safer, more timely and dignified transportation to citizens, particularly women, children and elderly passengers.
Public circles said the success of a modern public transport system depends not only on introducing new buses but also on ensuring their availability according to passenger demand. They expressed hope that the authorities would review the situation and take immediate measures to improve the service and restore public confidence in the route.
