Rawalpindi commuters received welcome relief after the district administration and the Regional Transport Authority introduced a fresh transport fares cut across public transport routes, following Punjab government directions. The revised rates have been issued at the tehsil level in line with the decline in petroleum product prices, giving passengers a noticeable break in daily travel costs.
According to the Secretary RTA, the transport fares cut applies to different categories of vehicles at varying levels. Air-conditioned diesel transport has seen a 12% reduction, while non-air-conditioned diesel transport and petrol-powered public transport have been reduced by 15%. Goods transport fares have been slashed by 18%, reflecting the latest adjustment in fuel costs.
Officials said field teams from the district administration and the RTA are already active at bus stands and along major routes to ensure the new fares are being implemented in full. Strict checking is underway to stop overcharging, and passengers are being encouraged to report any fare above the notified rates. Authorities have warned that those charging more than the approved fares will face legal action.
The move is expected to ease pressure on daily commuters in Rawalpindi, especially those relying on public transport for work and business travel. With enforcement now in focus, the administration says the transport fares cut will only deliver relief if operators follow the revised fare structure without exception.
