ISLAMABAD — Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Sardar Tahir Mehmood has called for treating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as investment opportunities rather than merely development targets.
Addressing an interactive session on “UNDP SDGs Investment Projects,” he said Pakistan needed to convert development ambitions into investment-ready, high-impact projects through stronger public-private partnerships.
UNDP Pakistan’s Head of Development Policy Unit Naghma-e-Tehniat said UNDP had been working since 2020 to take Pakistani projects to international investment platforms and promote the country as an investment destination.
Project Lead Consultant Nutshell Sajeed Aslam said the National SDGs Investment Project had shortlisted more than 40 federal and provincial projects across 11 sectors, including transport, health, agriculture, water, energy, tourism, technology, education and waste management.
Air Chief Marshal (Retd) Sohail Aman said the initiative aimed to bridge the gap between government, development institutions and the private sector and create a continuing pipeline of investable projects.
ICCI Executive Member Zulqurnain Abbasi said stronger collaboration among government, development partners and the private sector could generate sustainable investment, employment and inclusive economic growth.
