ISLAMABAD –A meeting of ticket-holders and central leaders of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) Azad Jammu and Kashmir, chaired by former AJK Prime Minister and IPP AJK President Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan, expressed serious concerns over the recent electoral process, including the failure to hold elections on seven seats in Poonch and Sudhanoti, alleged rigging, misuse of government machinery and federal interference.
The meeting expressed full confidence in IPP Chairman Abdul Aleem Khan and Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan, stating that any attempt to undermine the public mandate or weaken the constitutional and democratic system of AJK would not be accepted.
Participants decided to conduct a comprehensive constitutional and legal review of the seven vacant seats, rushed government formation, election of the state president, reserved seats and other disputed electoral matters. Legal experts will be consulted, and courts or relevant legal forums may be approached where necessary.
The meeting also stressed the need for free, fair, transparent and credible elections in AJK and refugee constituencies. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the political rights of the people, the constitutional status of AJK and its historic role as the base camp of the Kashmir freedom movement.
