ISLAMABAD — Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting and Federal Coordinator of the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights (PCCR), Danyal Chaudhary, MNA, chaired a meeting between PCCR and the Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (SPARC) at Parliament House to discuss strengthening tobacco control measures for the protection of children.
The meeting emphasized the need to protect children from tobacco and emerging nicotine products, particularly vaping and nicotine pouches, while increasing awareness among children, parents and teachers.
Participants discussed stronger health warnings, regulation of tobacco sales and displays around educational institutions, increased tobacco taxation, action against tobacco smuggling and improved enforcement of existing regulations.
It was agreed that PCCR and SPARC would collaborate on awareness and parliamentary engagement initiatives. SPARC will also provide relevant awareness materials and regional analysis on graphical health warnings to parliamentarians.
