ISLAMABAD—National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said Pakistan would continue to support the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) in their just struggle for the right to self-determination, describing India’s August 5, 2019 revocation of Articles 370 and 35A as a violation of United Nations Security Council resolutions and international law.
In his message on Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir, the Speaker said the move was aimed at altering the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir, changing its demographic composition, and undermining the identity of the Kashmiri people. He stressed that a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, was essential for lasting peace and stability in South Asia.
Ayaz Sadiq reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the Kashmiri people and urged the international community to take notice of alleged human rights violations, demographic changes, and restrictions imposed on Kashmiri leadership in IIOJK.
Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah also reiterated Pakistan’s support for the Kashmiri people, describing the revocation of Articles 370 and 35A as a condemnable act. He said Pakistan’s Parliament would continue to stand by the people of Jammu and Kashmir until they attained their right to self-determination.
