MANDI BAHAUDDIN: Despite torrential rainfall and storm-like weather conditions, District Jail Mandi Bahauddin remained fully secure and operational owing to the effective planning and timely preventive measures implemented under the supervision of Senior Superintendent District Jail Haq Nawaz.
According to official details, heavy rain began at around 6:00 a.m. and continued until approximately 3:00 p.m., with 121 mm of rainfall recorded. Despite the intense downpour, all routine prison operations continued without interruption and the overall situation remained completely normal.
The jail’s three drainage systems remained fully functional throughout the rainfall, while WASA machinery continuously assisted in removing accumulated water. A key role was played by specially installed stoppers at all water entry and exit points. These allowed water from inside the prison to drain out efficiently while preventing rising floodwater from outside from entering the jail premises.
Senior Superintendent Haq Nawaz said the prison’s drainage plan was designed by treating the facility like the ground floor of a building, where there is a greater risk of external water entering during heavy rainfall. He said all precautionary and drainage measures had been put in place well before the monsoon, and the strategy proved highly effective.
He added that any minor water accumulation was removed immediately through timely dewatering operations. “By the grace of Almighty Allah, the prison remained completely safe, all routine affairs continued smoothly, and the overall situation is fully under control,” he said.
