FAISALABAD: Managing Director Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Faisalabad Saqib Raza has said that the agency has placed its entire field force on 24-hour high alert to ensure the prompt drainage of rainwater during the ongoing monsoon season and to provide maximum relief to citizens. He stated that safeguarding residents from the hardships caused by expected and unexpected heavy rainfall remains WASA’s top priority. All field staff, engineering teams and operational officers have been directed to remain fully prepared round the clock to prevent water accumulation in low-lying areas and on major roads across the city. The Managing Director instructed all directors, deputy directors, assistant directors and field in-charges to stay in the field during rainfall and personally supervise drainage operations instead of monitoring them from their offices. He emphasized that immediate action should be taken on every complaint to ensure uninterrupted drainage activities.
Saqib Raza said all disposal stations have been made fully operational with sufficient fuel supplies, standby generators, heavy disposal pumps and other essential machinery available to tackle any emergency, even in the event of power outages. He further directed that additional staff and heavy-duty dewatering pumps be deployed at major intersections, key roads, underpasses and other vulnerable locations to ensure rainwater is removed in the shortest possible time. He added that all suction-jetting machines, dewatering pumps, operational vehicles and other equipment have been kept in complete operational readiness. The MD said a Central Control Room has been activated at the WASA Headquarters and will remain functional 24 hours a day to monitor field operations and respond promptly to public complaints. He warned that negligence or unnecessary delays in drainage operations would not be tolerated. He also informed that the desilting and cleaning of all major drains, sewer lines and storm-water channels are being completed on an emergency basis to ensure the smooth flow of rainwater. Additional machinery and manpower will be deployed wherever required.Appealing to the public, Saqib Raza urged citizens not to dump garbage, plastic bags, construction debris or other waste into sewer lines and drains, as such practices obstruct the drainage system and lead to waterlogging during rainfall. He advised residents to immediately report any water accumulation or drainage-related issues to the WASA Central Control Room so that response teams can reach the affected areas without delay.
Reaffirming the agency’s commitment, the Managing Director said WASA Faisalabad is utilizing all available resources in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to ensure efficient rainwater drainage and provide the best possible municipal services to citizens throughout the monsoon season.
