TOBA TEK SINGH: Vice Chancellor of the University of Kamalia, Prof. Dr. Yasir Nawab, emphasized that artificial intelligence (AI) readiness should be adopted as a comprehensive institutional strategy rather than being limited to a single course or training workshop, while addressing an international online dialogue on “Transformation of Universities for Digital and AI Readiness.”
The dialogue, organized by the University of Kamalia in collaboration with ISLAH Universities, brought together vice chancellors and academic experts from Pakistan, the United Kingdom, and Malaysia to discuss the responsible integration of AI in higher education.
Prof. Dr. Yasir Nawab said universities must develop strategies covering curriculum, faculty development, student literacy, assessment, governance, ethics, data protection, and digital infrastructure to prepare institutions for the AI era.
Experts, including Prof. Dr. Ashfaq Ahmad Chatha, Prof. Dr. Saeed Ahmad Buzdar, Prof. Dr. Aqif Anwar Chaudhry, Prof. Dr. Omar Chaudhry, Dr. John Arthur, Prof. Dr. Ashiq Anjum, and Prof. Dr. Tariq Zaman, stressed that AI should enhance learning without replacing critical thinking or human judgment.
The participants recommended reforms in student assessment, greater transparency in AI use, protection of institutional data, faculty training, equitable access to AI tools, and the development of local-language AI models and Pakistani datasets. They concluded that universities should adopt AI through responsible, ethical, and well-coordinated strategies to strengthen higher education.
