JAMSHORO — The Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH) organized a youth awareness session at the Institute of Commerce & Management, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, highlighting the harmful effects of unhealthy diets and ultra-processed products (UPPs).
Around 120 students, faculty members and youth advocates attended the session, which focused on the growing burden of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, obesity and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Pakistan.
PANAH General Secretary Sana Ullah Ghumman said frequent consumption of unhealthy and ultra-processed products can contribute to poor health outcomes. He stressed that Front-of-Pack Warning Labels (FOPWL) can help consumers, particularly young people, identify products containing excessive levels of nutrients of concern and make healthier choices.
Prof. Muhammad Hafeez Abro appreciated PANAH’s public health advocacy, while Prof. Dr. Hakim Ali Mahesar, Director of the Institute of Commerce & Management, expressed support for further awareness initiatives.
The session was part of PANAH’s nationwide university-based youth campaign to promote healthier food environments and raise awareness about NCD prevention.
