ISLAMABAD– Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Danyal Chaudhry said timely, credible and verifiable information is essential for building public trust and enabling informed decision-making in the digital age.
He was chairing a panel discussion titled “The Value of Information Integrity: Trust, Journalism and Resilience” during a national dialogue on “Access to Information for Enhancing Information Integrity”, organized by UNESCO Office Pakistan in collaboration with the Press Information Department (PID), CPDI and the National Forum of Information Commissioners (NFIC).
Barrister Danyal said the rapid growth of social media, digital platforms and artificial intelligence had expanded access to information but also created challenges including misinformation, disinformation and AI-generated content.
He stressed the need for responsible journalism, timely government communication, media literacy and ethical use of AI to strengthen public confidence in the information ecosystem.
He said information integrity was a shared responsibility of the government, parliament, media, civil society, academia, technology platforms and citizens. He emphasized that credible information must reach the public promptly to prevent information gaps from being exploited by false narratives.
The Parliamentary Secretary appreciated UNESCO, PID, CPDI and NFIC for facilitating the dialogue and called for stronger cooperation among stakeholders to build a credible, transparent and resilient information ecosystem in Pakistan.
