Gujranwala: The National Highways and Motorway Police have foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics into Punjab during a major operation near Kallar Kahar on the M-2 Motorway.
According to a spokesperson for the Motorway Police, officers spotted and stopped two suspicious vehicles during routine patrolling. However, the suspects abandoned the vehicles and fled the scene after seeing the police.
The police immediately cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the fleeing suspects.
A search of the two vehicles led to the recovery of 243 kilograms of narcotics, including 155 kilograms of opium and 88 kilograms of hashish.
According to preliminary investigations, the drugs were allegedly being transported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Punjab.
The Motorway Police subsequently handed over the recovered narcotics and both vehicles to the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The successful operation reflects the continued efforts of the Motorway Police to prevent the transportation of illegal drugs and strengthen security on major highways.
