GUJRANWALA — On the instructions of the Punjab Government and Home Department, the Jails Department has launched strict action against corruption, abuse of authority and negligence of duty across the province.

On the orders of Inspector General Prisons Punjab Mian Salik Jalal, 16 officers and officials posted in various prisons have been suspended, while a departmental inquiry has also been initiated against a senior official.

Those suspended include Superintendent Gujranwala Muhammad Azhar Javed and Superintendent Rasul Bakhsh Kalachi of Central Jail Mianwali. Deputy and Assistant Superintendents, storekeepers, warders, a head warder and a computer operator from various jails are also among those facing action.

A formal departmental inquiry has additionally been launched against District Jail Hafizabad Head Clerk Mohammad Naseer Hussain.

The IG Prisons said there would be no compromise on transparency, accountability and discipline, adding that indiscriminate action against officials involved in corruption, abuse of authority or negligence would continue.
Further departmental action is also underway.
