ISLAMABAD: PANAH’s Think Tank has urged the Government of Pakistan to expedite mandatory Front-of-Pack Warning Labels (FOPWLs) on ultra-processed foods high in sugar, sodium and unhealthy fats.
The demand was made at PANAH’s 5th Think Tank meeting, chaired by President Maj Gen (R) Masud Rehman Kiani and attended by health experts, policymakers and civil society representatives.
Participants highlighted the rising burden of heart disease, diabetes, obesity and other non-communicable diseases, stressing the need for healthier food environments.
Maj Gen (R) Kiani said clear warning labels would help consumers identify unhealthy products and make informed choices.
PANAH General Secretary Sana Ullah Ghumman said an evidence-based FOPWL proposal submitted to PSQCA over two years ago remains under discussion.
The Think Tank urged PSQCA and the Ministry of Science and Technology to expedite mandatory FOPWL standards to protect public health, especially children and young people.
