MURREE — The Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH), along with public health experts and media professionals, has urged the government to immediately make Front-of-Pack Warning Labels (FOPWLs) mandatory on ultra-processed food and beverage products.
Experts called for prominent black octagonal warning labels in Urdu to help consumers, particularly those with low literacy, identify products high in sugar, sodium and saturated fats.
PANAH General Secretary Sana Ullah Ghumman said every day of delay exposes more consumers, especially children and young people, to unhealthy products and increases the risk of diet-related diseases.
Participants urged the Ministry of Science and Technology and PSQCA to expedite the implementation of mandatory FOPWLs in line with WHO recommendations.
