ISLAMABAD — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Kisan Wing Central Information Secretary Khalid Nawaz Sadhraich has strongly criticized the government over the continued rise in prices of petroleum products, flour and other essential commodities, saying inflation has placed an unbearable burden on the common man.
In a statement issued on Monday, Sadhraich said the prices of petroleum products and food items were increasing continuously while the incomes of workers, salaried employees, daily-wage earners and pensioners remained largely unchanged.
He said the purchasing power of fixed-income families had been severely affected, making it increasingly difficult for ordinary households to meet basic needs.
Sadhraich criticized members of the National Assembly for allegedly failing to effectively raise their voice against rising prices. He also questioned the repeated increases in petroleum prices and their impact on already struggling families.
Referring to Bangladesh, he said petroleum prices there had remained unchanged since May 1, while consumers in Pakistan continued to face repeated increases. He added that rising flour prices were also making it difficult for low-income families to provide adequate food for their children.
The PTI leader warned that inflation was also making education and healthcare increasingly unaffordable. He urged the government, policymakers and parliamentarians to take immediate and practical measures to control inflation and provide relief to the majority of the population.
