KARACHI — The Government of Japan has announced a grant of USD 55,734, equivalent to approximately PKR 15.5 million, to a local NGO for the purchase of a new school bus for special students in Karachi.
The grant agreement was signed at the Consulate-General of Japan in Karachi between Japanese Consul General HATTORI Masaru and Ms. Habiba Habib, President of the Institute of Behavioral Psychology (IBP) School of Special Education Karachi.
The new school bus will enable an additional 30 students to access quality education, vocational training and specialised therapeutic services.
The bus will provide safe and reliable door-to-door transportation to students with psychological and physical challenges, many of whom face difficulties in accessing education due to lengthy travel arrangements.
The project will also allow the families of these students to pursue socio-economic opportunities during school hours.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Consul General HATTORI Masaru expressed hope that the grant assistance would generate substantial social benefits and contribute to long-term economic development through support for the IBP School of Special Education.
The Government of Japan reaffirmed its commitment to providing flexible and timely support to local NGOs through grant assistance programmes aimed at improving the social wellbeing of the people of Pakistan.
