LAHORE — A delegation of Goods and Transport Associations of Punjab and Sindh met Additional IG Operations Asim Gulzar and senior police officers at the Central Police Office Lahore to discuss transporters’ concerns, traffic rules and road safety.

Punjab Police and transporters agreed on a joint action plan to resolve their issues through mutual consultation. Police officials welcomed the decision by transport organizations to postpone their strike.

Additional IG Operations Asim Gulzar said committees were being formed to address legitimate concerns of the transport community. He said joint awareness sessions would also be held to educate drivers about road safety and traffic regulations.

Asim Gulzar said there would be no compromise on the protection of human lives and action against traffic violations would continue.

DIG Traffic Punjab Waqas Nazir said measures were being taken to prevent unnecessary FIRs, challans and fines against transporters. He also announced that steps were being taken to facilitate heavy vehicle drivers in obtaining HTV licences.

DIG PHP Faisal Ali Raja said violations including overtaking, overloading, overspeeding and wrong parking by dumper drivers were major causes of accidents.

The meeting was attended by senior traffic and police officers and representatives of major goods transport associations
