BHIMBER: Secretary Information, Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Muhammad Rashid Hanif, has urged print, electronic and digital media professionals to uphold responsible, impartial and professional journalism during the 2026 General Elections to ensure the public receives accurate and verified information.
In a special message, also endorsed by Director General Information Tariq Jamil and Deputy Director Information Mirpur Division Raja Muhammad Sohail Khan, he stressed the importance of timely dissemination of authentic and balanced news while avoiding rumours, misinformation and inflammatory content. He called on journalists to strictly observe the Election Commission of AJK’s Code of Conduct and professional journalistic ethics.
According to District Information Officer Bhimber Adnan Mukhtar, the officials also advised media representatives to share only verified information on digital platforms, including Facebook, X, WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, and to refrain from circulating misleading or unverified content that could undermine public confidence or disturb the peaceful electoral environment.
The Information Department, they said, will remain in close coordination with the media throughout the election process to ensure the timely provision of official information. They emphasised that responsible journalism is essential for the conduct of free, fair, transparent and peaceful elections and expressed confidence that the media would continue to play a constructive role in strengthening democracy and promoting social harmony.
