THARPARKAR: In a decisive move to curb soaring flour prices and protect consumers from profiteering, Deputy Commissioner Tharparkar Abdul Halim Jagirani chaired a high-level meeting on Monday and announced revised official flour prices for the district, directing authorities to ensure their strict implementation.
The meeting was attended by the District Food Controller, officials from the Bureau of Supply and Prices, representatives of the Flour Mills Association, Flour Chakki Association, Grocery Merchants Association, supermarket representatives, and other stakeholders.
During the meeting, officials informed participants that the price of a 100-kilogram bag of wheat in the open market had risen to between Rs11,500 and Rs11,800, pushing flour prices to as high as Rs150 per kilogram in some areas of the district.
Following detailed discussions, all stakeholders unanimously agreed on revised official flour prices to ensure affordability and uniform rates across Tharparkar. Under the new pricing structure, flour produced by flour mills has been fixed at Rs115 per kilogram (wholesale) and Rs118 per kilogram (retail). Flour supplied by chakkis and retail shops has been fixed at Rs125 per kilogram (wholesale) and Rs128 per kilogram (retail).
Deputy Commissioner Jagirani directed the relevant departments to strictly enforce the newly notified rates, adding that an official notification had been issued with immediate effect. He warned that strict legal action would be taken against profiteers, hoarders, and traders found charging prices above the government-approved rates.
He also appealed to the public to report any shopkeeper involved in overcharging so that prompt action could be taken in accordance with the law.
At the conclusion of the meeting, representatives of the Flour Mills Association, Flour Chakki Association, Grocery Merchants Association, and supermarket owners assured the district administration of their full cooperation and pledged to implement the officially notified flour prices in the interest of consumers.
